# 102 8-Bit Mario and Luigi Cupcakes

July 17th, 2011
8-Bit Mario and Luigi Cupcakes

This was a fun idea for me and my 5-year-old to make some cupcakes. He's a huge fan of Super Mario, so we made some easy "8-bit" cupcakes by frosting the yellow cake with homemade chocolate peanut butter buttercream, and dipping them into a mixture of white mini dragees and chocolate jimmies. From far away, they look pixelated! ☺

Do do do do do do! Do. --

# 100 MY Wedding Cake

June 18th, 2011
My Wedding Cake

This was a chocolate and white layered cake, vanilla buttercream and fondant. Details in silver dragees, and handmade gum paste flowers. I also made cupcakes to match, and 1ups (which were meringue mushrooms, dipped in colored white chocolate and topped with white candy-coated sunflower seeds), for our big day.

Coincidentally, this is also my 100th cake.

I've also put up some pictures of us from the day. ☺

# 99 I Love You Cake

June 4th, 2011
I Love You Cake

I made this cake for my children, because they are always so excited when I make a cake - only to find out that it is not for them, it is leaving our house!!! They are constantly begging me to make them a special cake.
So I did.
We put candles on it to really make it fun. ☺
They were really excited.
This was a yellow and white cake, with fresh strawberries & vanilla pudding filling, covered in 'super star power' buttercream and fondant. Adorned with silver dragees, yellow sugar crystals, and white candy coated sunflower seeds.

# 97 My Las Vegas Wedding (Reception) Cake

May 21st, 2011
My Las Vegas Wedding (Reception) Cake

My husband and I met in Las Vegas when we were 16 and 17, at EFY (Especially For Youth), a church camp, and dated our senior year of high school, for 3-ish months. Drama ensues - we are forced to split apart. :o) 8 years later, we re-connected!
I moved away from Las Vegas, but he still lived there - so I flew out and we had a little reception in Las Vegas before he made the move out to Illinois.

This cake (made in the blistering heat of Las Vegas, Nevada), was a chocolate and white cake, covered in vanilla buttercream frosting.
The green layer of cake is our nerdy tribute to our theme of 1ups from Super Mario - "Everyone deserves a second chance." ☺

ABC Cupcakes for Everyone

These were part of a lesson, to try and teach Eleanor her ABC's a bit better. We took these white cake cupcakes (smothered in rainbow vanilla buttercream) to a handful of people we know, as a surprise visit! The kids had a great time surprising people with cake. ☺

# 93 A Cake Lesson With Jami

April 3rd, 2011
A Cake Lesson With Jami

This cake was made by Jami West, my beautiful (and talented!) friend, who shares my interest in cake. She really wants to learn, so I helped her explore some things about cake construction and decorating. She frosted the cake, practiced borders, and we made all the roses.
When the cake was completed, we delivered it to a nursing home that Jami had contacted, to donate the cake to it's patrons.
(She had the idea after thinking about how we could possibly put all that cake to good use!)
It was sweet, seeing the people in the nursing home react to her work, and seeing Jami be proud of her cake!
(They were all very excited to have a slice. ☺)
Vanilla cake, covered in buttercream frosting.

Logan's Mario Perler Cake

I spent forever working on this cake for Logan, because I had to secretly make the figures while he slept at night!! He still plays with these all the time, and now his collection has grown.
This was a chocolate cake, filled with "star power" buttercream, topped with vanilla buttercream, and perler bead mario decorations. ☺

# 87 Han Solo in Carbonite Cake

Han Solo in Carbonite Cake

Do do do do dooo dooo... I guess the Star Wars theme is less exciting in blog-format. ☺
This was a birthday cake! It was a vanilla/chocolate marble cake, covered in vanilla buttercream, with fondant and M&M details.
I really hope I can do this cake again some time. It was a blast! My favorite is that there was snow on the ground, so I could take a picture of the cake in the snow on the balcony. ☺

This was for a 16th birthday. It was chocolate cake, yellow cake, covered in vanilla buttercream, with fondant details. (The candlestick is not edible ☺)

# 85 Happy SOTW Cupcakes

November 13th, 2010
Happy SOTW Cupcakes

I was part of the production of "The Savior of the World" - and for one of our final rehearsals I made these cupcakes. We were being reminded to smile, so I thought it would be fun to have a happy reminder in cupcake form! These were chocolate cake, filled with mint buttercream, and topped with a neon rainbow of vanilla buttercream and a pinch of white mini dragees.
