#110 The Tiny Chocolate Milk Party Cake

August 31st, 2011
The Tiny Chocolate Milk Party Cake

I made this tiny cake for my daughter & I's weekly "Chocolate Milk Party" - which is a great tradition, I think. :o)

I made it from a double oreo, (half chocolate), frosted in buttercream and left, covered, overnight. (The cookie softens)

#109 The Seasoned Missionary Cake

August 30th, 2011
The Seasoned Missionary Cake

This was a birthday cake for one of the missionaries in our ward - he is at the end of his mission here, and was transferring areas the next day. I was crunched for time, so I got the most plain cake I could find at Meijer and brought it home to spruce up. (I know, blasphemous!)

The cake was white frosting, with a blobby orange border and three gigantic blobs made out to be balloons on the cake. I added some more to the border (hey, might as well get really crazy with it), and put a picture on it of two determined missionaries serving in the Chicagoland area. :o)

Vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream.

#108 The Murloc (World of Warcraft) Cake

August 26th, 2011
The Murloc (World of Warcraft) Cake

This was a chocolate cake, with french vanilla buttercream frosting. The murloc I handmade from toothpicks, wire and fondant. (Scroll down for the story) Murloc birthday cake is made from a frosted oreo. :o)

This cake is for my husband, who loves the game World of Warcraft. The murloc is a creature in the game, and it doesn't speak english, all it ever says sounds like "WRGLLURGLURGLL!" - so I had to make it his birthday cake. ☺

First I set up my "work station" - I found a picture online to reference.
(Thanks Blizzard!!)

I constructed the skeleton of dowel rod, tooth picks, and wire.
If I had bothered to have some styrofoam on hand... it wouldn't be mounted in fondant, I promise.

Then I added the fondant, sculpting the muscles, toes, and other details with a toothpick.

Then I painted it.

The finished murloc, outside (for better lighting) - front view.

Left side - scales!

Right side.

The spiny things are fondant covered wires - and the teeth are individually
 trimmed and painted toothpick tips.

My husband.
In all his nerdy greatness.
He loved his cake.

:o)

I wanted the candles to keep with the theme - so I put them in the background for a sort of "tribal" vibe since murlocs are usually found in their tribal-ish villages on the edge of water.

August 16th, 2011
The Sushi Cupcakes

These were white cake, covered in buttercream frosting. Details in various candies. :o)

First, I had to prep my sushi station! :o) My favorite moment was when my son asked me, "Is that rice?"
Left to right: Strawberry licorice, green M&Ms, strawberry nerds, super chopped coconut.

YEAH! One down, 59 to go...

Ninjabread Men in the background.

#105 The Dinner Cupcakes

August 4th, 2011
The Dinner Cupcakes

I made these for a night we spent at a friend's for dinner. I will not lie... these were DELICIOUS. I made a white cake, without eggs, (I used applesauce instead) and filled each cupcake with a little chocolate pudding, topped with vanilla buttercream. Yum yum yum nom.

#104 Sugar Cube Temple!

August 4th, 2011
Sugar Cube Temple!

Ok, so this isn't really a cake, but I did decorate it! It was tiny, and a fun activity - part of a FHE for the kids - and it got me thinking... what else can I make with sugar cubes?? ... More to come on that! ;o)

#103 Butterfly Flowers Cake

July 31st, 2011
Butterfly Flowers Cake

This birthday cake was for a 4-year-old, who LOVES princesses and girly things. I guess while searching for a cake she wanted, she announced that she wanted a cake with butterflies and flowers on it, but just couldn't find one. Lol.
This is a golden yellow cake, with vanilla buttercream frosting, and butterfly accents.

# 102 8-Bit Mario and Luigi Cupcakes

July 17th, 2011
8-Bit Mario and Luigi Cupcakes

This was a fun idea for me and my 5-year-old to make some cupcakes. He's a huge fan of Super Mario, so we made some easy "8-bit" cupcakes by frosting the yellow cake with homemade chocolate peanut butter buttercream, and dipping them into a mixture of white mini dragees and chocolate jimmies. From far away, they look pixelated! ☺

Do do do do do do! Do. --

# 100 MY Wedding Cake

June 18th, 2011
My Wedding Cake

This was a chocolate and white layered cake, vanilla buttercream and fondant. Details in silver dragees, and handmade gum paste flowers. I also made cupcakes to match, and 1ups (which were meringue mushrooms, dipped in colored white chocolate and topped with white candy-coated sunflower seeds), for our big day.

Coincidentally, this is also my 100th cake.

I've also put up some pictures of us from the day. ☺
