# 153 Eleanor's Valentine Cake

February 12th, 2013
Eleanor's Valentine Cake

My daughter had the biggest crush on Elder Wagner, an Elder (missionary) who would come teach us and have dinner with us with his companion when we lived in our old apartment.... and he came back to Chicagoland to visit! Eleanor was over the moon.... and it was also appropriately close to Valentine's Day, so I made a cake for the occasion. Lucky Eleanor... Elder Wagner asked her to be his Valentine! :o)

# 151 Green Lantern Birthday Cake

January 9th, 2013
Green Lantern Birthday Cake

This was my son's 7th birthday cake. He's really into the "Super Friends" (we're talking the old cartoon from the 70's) and one of his favorite characters is the Green Lantern.

His cake was chocolate (he's a chocoholic too ☺) with vanilla buttercream.

And... I know it's not cake, but I also made him an Iron Man pizza!

Penguin Cupcakes

These fun little birthday cupcakes were for a friend of mine, for her daughter. Rumor has it she likes penguins! Later, I found out she just loved them! I admit, these cute little guys do melt my heart a little.

Molly's Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my friend Molly, for her birthday. It was chocolate cake, with peanut butter frosting, covered in a thin layer of vanilla buttercream.

# 146 Friends Thanksgiving Cupcakes

November 10th, 2012
Friends Thanksgiving Cupcakes

My friends and I all got together this year with our families, for our first annual "Thankful for Friends" Thanksgiving celebration. This year, we were late-comers because of double-booking, but we ended up making it in time for leftovers and dessert.

# 145 Eyeball Cupcakes

October 27th, 2012
Eyeball Cupcakes

I made these red velvet eyeball cake balls (on cupcakes) for our ward Trunk-or-Treat. They were a big hit! I was lucky that my kids were in the cake walk, otherwise I don't think they would have been able to try one!

Our family went with the Harry Potter theme. I think my son nailed it.

# 144 As You Wish Cake

October 22nd, 2012
As You Wish Cake

I made this birthday cake for my daughter - who was very specific on what she would like on her fourth birthday cake. I put everything she wanted on it, exactly as she wanted... and she was over the moon.

It's a chocolate/strawberry swirl cake with pink buttercream frosting, topped with Elmo, Winnie The Pooh, Ariel, Cinderella, a pumpkin, a shark, and lots of frosting spiders. After everyone had their slice, my daughter was very careful in *squishing* each individual spider. :o)

Matching Cupcakes (for her party)

Putting candles where she wanted on her cake.

Eleanor was very lucky - her Nana & Papa flew out from Calgary!!!

Squishing spiders.

# 143 Molasses Brown Sugar Cake

October 14th, 2012
Molasses Brown Sugar Cake

My poor friends. I always experiment on them. We were going to dinner at a friend's house, and I made this cake to bring with us. I used molasses and brown sugar in the frosting... it ended up too sweet and also the frosting was a funny crystallized texture. My mom giggled when I told her about it... I think she knew.

And yes, those are mini marshmallows on top. The dried out crunchy kind.
(-_- ) ... ( -_-) ... (-_- ) ... ( -_-)

# 142 Swimage Cake

October 12th, 2012
Swimage Cake

This was a birthday cake for my husband's boss. Swimage is... his baby. If you don't know about Swimage and you own a computer, check it out here for more information.

# 141 The Cookies N' Cream Cake

The Cookies N' Cream Cake

So I took my friend's advice and I made one for my own kids. They were totally in love! I was glad it tasted decent. :o)
One of our new favorites!

# 140 Bears vs. Jaguars Birthday Cake

October 5th, 2012
Bears vs. Jaguars Birthday Cake

This cake was for a friend of mine, whose son is all about football. This cake was a cookies and cream cake, with vanilla buttercream and fondant accents.

A little while later, I got a phone call saying that this was a much loved cake - and their new favorite flavor! I was encouraged to try it with my own kids... (I did!)

# 139 Chocolate Vanilla Swirl Cupcakes

August 21st, 2012
Chocolate Vanilla Swirl Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes (with some help from my favorite kitchen helper daughter... she is a PRO at sprinkles) for my husband for his birthday. The kids and I brought them to his work as a surprise!

They were chocolate and vanilla, with chocolate and vanilla buttercream. And rainbow sprinkles to boot.

Yes, they WERE this delicious.

# 138 Dalek Birthday Cake

August 20th, 2012
Dalek Birthday Cake

This was a birthday cake for my husband, a big Doctor Who fan like me. I think it was appropriate, since he just EXTERMINATED another year... *hee hee hee*

# 137 Butter Pecan Birthday Cake

August 19th, 2012
Butter Pecan Birthday Cake

This birthday cake was for my husband, at a get-together we had at my ex-aunt-in-law's home. (That's a mouthful! They really are amazing.) It was vanilla cake, with vanilla buttercream and topped with crushes pecans and caramel sauce. In hindsight, this bad boy was way too sweet!!!

# 136 Super Chocolate Cupcakes

August 5th, 2012
Super Chocolate Cupcakes

Because, why not? These chocolatey bad boys were topped in super cocoa chocolate buttercream. They were drool-worthy. I kept sneaking them, I won't lie. Delicious. My favorite so far maybe... but I'm biased, seeing as I'm a chocoholic. :o)

# 135 The Goodbye Cake

August 5th, 2012
The Goodbye Cake

This cake was for a farewell for a friend who was moving a few states over. We sure will miss her!

# 134 Mario Missionary Cake

August 3rd, 2012
Mario Missionary Cake

I made this cake for our favorite Elders, who actually did not come to the missionary luncheon, but all of the other missionaries loved it! My son came and helped me pass out cake and man the dessert table, so we had lots of fun. At the end, the missionaries lined up and sang us a song to say thank you! Logan had a great time serving, and we were really grateful we could put a smile on some of their faces.

Logan approves!

#133 Rainbow Cookies

Rainbow Cookies

Okay, I know these aren't technically cake, but I had to share! What a fun recipe. It was just like playdough. All of these pictures are post-baking, so you can really see how the color stays the same.

# 132 The Cake is A Lie

July 23rd, 2012
The Cake is A Lie

My friend ordered a black forest cake from me, for her husband for his birthday. His favorite cake is black forest cake, and I - of course, being the geek that I am - was thrilled especially to model it after the cake from Portal (a video game) - in which you (the player) are constantly promised a cake (which you never get) that looks just as a black forest cake does.
Delicious!

# 131 Flag Cake

July 4th, 2012
Flag Cake

For Independence Day this year, we were actually out of town, in Utah, visiting family. I wanted to try and make this cake I'd had an idea for, and my mother-in-law was totally on board! This is a colored white cake, with buttercream frosting (my mother-in-law's buttercream recipe) and the blue cake... well we made that with no eggs. We used applesauce instead!
The one and only tweezer-applied firework I did on the cake.
The inside of the cake was what really mattered:

My brother-in-law, enjoying his slice!

I think my frustration was just making a cake somewhere that wasn't my own kitchen.
But in hindsight, it was pretty cute.
